Pulau Redang or Redang Island is one of the largest islands of the east coast in Peninsular Malaysia. Located at Kuala Terengganu, it is one of the nine islands that form the Marine Park and which offers diving and snorkeling activities for tourists. (Source: Wikipedia)

You may travel to Redang by land or by air. Land travel from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu is 8 hours approximately, and air travel is 1 hour. I traveled by air via AirAsia and the round trip costs RM230 (regular fare) / USD60.

Traveling by air is faster and more comfortable but it always depends on your preference. From Sultan Mahmud Airport, you have to arrange a mode of transport to Shahbandar Jetty. Usually, the resorts include the transport from the airport to the jetty and from the jetty to the resort already; you just need to check in with the resort’s schedule before booking your flight. If not, the fare from the airport to jetty costs RM10 / USD3 and the fare on the ferry costs RM55 / USD14. Travel time from the jetty to Redang is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

If you prefer beach bumming, you need to relax and do nothing, Redang Island is the perfect place for you! You will be welcomed by its powder-like sand and its clear sea. The island is not so commercialized that is why you’ll be able to enjoy the peacefulness of the whole place.

Myles-Redang_Island_1There are lots of activities you can do on this island too! You can go diving, snorkeling, trekking, beach volleyball and other recreational activities, watch the sunrise, watch the turtles, and of course, have some nightlife! My friends and I went on an island-hopping trip. We went to Lang Tengah Island, Sari Pacifica in Lang Tengah, Marine Park, and a place that has the best set of corals and fishes I have seen.

The view I’m telling you about: I’d kill to stay and just watch the fishes here forever. This is just one of the liveliest corals I’ve seen. You can see how alive they are when you’re just looking at the sea; it’s even wonderful underneath. These pictures won’t even make justice how beautiful it is.

Other attraction in Redang is the famous replica of Mo Mo Cha Inn (More More Tea Inn). The replica can be seen in the hit Chinese movie Summer Holiday, which was partly shot in Redang. It is located in Laguna Redang Island Resort and beside is where you can buy great souvenirs too.

Myles-Redang_Island_17Redang island is definitely a place you’d love to come back to. 3 days and 2 nights was not enough for me, but hey, it is such a memorable trip that I will always remember.
